Job

so here is the deal,

I need to find a job, I have not been working for money or outside of the house for about 7 years
I am rather scared and nervous.
my husband and my brother in law both have suggested I join the union of utility workers.

mmmmmm.
the benny's would be really good
and the pay ok.
I am going tomorrow to find out what it is all about
the hours are good, early in the morning til early after noon, weekends off mostly.
so I could still be home for the kids in the afternoon.
we will see.

I hope your job search finds you something you enjoy...looking for a job is never easy.

I really think that there should be some sort of program or consideration in place to either pay women (or men) who stay home to raise their children, and/or give them a leg up in getting back into the work force when that time comes.

Why is it that people (be it the mother or father) who opt to leave the workforce to do one of the most important things anyone can do (focus on raising children), they get penalized for it? Doesn't make sense to me.

Well...I actually wanted to wish you luck, not go on a rant. Sorry.

Tymbr and I will keep you in our prayers as you look for a job.

I wish you the best, too!
Don't worry, once you have a job you will get the hang of it quickly again.
I was in the same situation a few years ago. But within days I felt comfortable on the job again (that was in an office).
However, I quit a few years later, because I felt too stressed with work and kids and we really didn't NEED the money.

I wish you the best. About how many hours are you looking for?

I know looking for work is scary and stressful. I am praying for you to have peace about it. What does an utility worker do?

I just heard about this topic on the radio recently. There are a lot of women entering the workforce after staying home and raising their children full time. The woman on the radio said to make sure you put your volunteer activities (church stuff, stuff at your kids schools etc.) on your resume to fill in that gap of unemployment. I don't know if you've done anything outside the home like that but I thought it was good advice. I will pray that you find something that fits your schedule but that you also enjoy.

I am looking for 8hrs a day and to be early in the morning so I can at least be home in the afternoon.
I think I am going to be a driver for my husbands old company, which really means that I drive around and deliver tools and drywall mud and what ever else they need to the job sites.
should be pretty good.
I am actually getting excited.

That sounds like a nice job. Could be a bit social as well. I'm looking forward to an update about the job search.

Don't forget about temp agencies and job posting on craigslist. Even temp stuff can be useful.
